New Generation i30 Tourer

Written by Lee McKenzie McKinnon on . Posted in News

Following the successful introduction of the New Generation i30 hatch earlier this year, Hyundai Motor Company Australia will launch its much anticipated wagon sibling, the i30 Tourer in early 2013. Delivering customers the same exceptional levels of comfort, refinement and efficiency of the hatch, the i30 Tourer offers the additional benefit of increased storage space. Designed in Russelsheim Germany, incorporating Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture design language, the flowing lines of the exterior conceal a spacious and practical interior packed with comfort and convenience. The i30 Tourer will be available in two trim levels, Active and Elite, with a choice of petrol or diesel powertrains – the 1.6-litre Gamma GDi petrol engine achieving 99kW @ 6300 rpm and 164.3Nm @ 4850 rpm, or the 1.6-litre UII CRDi diesel engine achieving 94kW @ 4000 rpm and 260Nm @ 1900-2750 rpm. Both engines will be available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic with sequential manual mode. Designed to achieving a maximum safety rating, the New Generation i30 Tourer offers a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety technologies. Standard across all models in the range are Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), and ABS with EBD & Brake Assist System (BAS), while advanced passive safety features include the use of ultra-high tensile steel within the body shell and seven airbags as standard. Sharing the i30 hatch’s 2650mm wheelbase, the i30 Tourer adds 185mm in total length and offers 528-litres of stowage capacity with rear seats up, an increase of 150-litres over the hatch. This expands to a massive 1,642 litres with the second row seats folded flat, an increase of 326 litres. Supplementary underfloor storage compartments further add to the i30 Tourer’s versatile and practical nature. Equipment levels of i30 Tourer models will be similar, but not identical, to their hatchback stable mates. Comprehensive model specification will be available closer to launch. i30 Tourer Pricing

Brazil Only New Crossover

Written by Lee McKenzie McKinnon on . Posted in News

Hyundai Motor Brazil (HMB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, unveiled its latest Brazil-exclusive model, HB20X, at the Sao Paulo International Motor Show, accelerating the company’s commitment in one of the world’s fastest-growing auto markets. The crossover vehicle, which will officially launch early next year, is part of Hyundai’s exclusive family of cars built for the Brazilian market, badged under the name `HB,’ which stands for Hyundai Brazil. Just last month, Hyundai launched the first member of its HB family, a hatchback version called HB20. A sedan version is scheduled to appear in the first quarter next year. “Hyundai invested years of research to identify the top values of Brazilian consumers and what standards they set when choosing new vehicles,” Hyundai Motor’s Vice Chairman Euisun Chung said during a speech at the motor show. “We are confident that the HB family will not only meet, but exceed Brazilian consumers’ expectations with its outstanding design, finish and flexible fuel support.” “Furthermore, with our new plant, Hyundai’s ultimate goal is to become a true partner of Brazil, a country that is dynamically emerging as a major force in the world’s economy,” Vice Chairman Chung said. “We aim to be a company that contributes strongly to Brazil’s industrial, economic and social competitiveness.” The crossover version, based on the HB20 hatchback, features unique details in its design and performance to meet the demands of customers with more active outdoor lifestyles. The front of HB20X has a redesigned bumper with hexagonal grille reflecting Hyundai’s new family look for SUVs and latest design philosophy, Fluidic Sculpture. The headlights have an eye-catching finish with black bezel and chrome details, giving a sporty and sophisticated image, while the fog lamps were redesigned to give a stronger impression. The side profile of HB20X keeps the original robust and fluidic design waistline from  as seen on HB20. Key design features include a side black molding wrap and ample ground clearance, valuable features for more visibility and control on bad road conditions, while roof bars offer more flexibility for carrying extra weekend luggage and lifelstyle accessories. The 15-inch dark grey alloy wheels complete HB20X’s sporty personality. The rear of the HB20X has a redesigned bumper, with black mouldings highlighted with stylish rear lamps, as seen on HB20, to immediately capture attention. Inside, the HB20X features the same high quality interior of the HB20, adding exclusive items such as sport-style pedals, chrome finishing for door handles and air conditioning controls, as well as blue double stitching accents applied to the steering wheel and seats. HB20X will offer Hyundai’s GAMMA 1.6-litre 16V FLEX engine featuring a Continuous Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) and aluminium block which delivers 95kW, the most powerful in the category. Customers can choose between manual or automatic transmissions. All HB models will be produced at Hyundai Motor’s new plant in Piracicaba, Sao Paulo state and sold through a dedicated Hyundai dealer network. HB20X Specification

Veloster Has Street-cred

Written by Lee McKenzie McKinnon on . Posted in News

The Veloster is one head turning car. When launched to the Australian market it was unknown if people would like the one door on the driver’s side and two on the passenger, but as it’s showing with sales, Australians love it. Hyundai Australia revealed last week a new concept that will just about snap your next as you see it. In conjunction with a local aftermarket modification company Concord Customs, the concept makes a bold visual statement. The standard Veloster SR was pumped with so much street-cred that the list of mods fitted is almost too long to list. The design theme takes the Veloster’s muscular character lines in fearsome factory matt grey paint, and bolsters them with custom exterior finishes including a fluoro orange accent defining the side-skirts, rear diffuser and front spoiler. The illuminated front, rear side and rear splitters make a bold statement, while at the rear end a striking matt black spoiler and turbo-back twin exhausts complete the look. While the looks of the Veloster Street Concept are impressive, it goes far beyond exterior cosmetics, with significant under-bonnet and interior modifications. Open the boot of the Concept and you enter the music zone, with a PowerBass high-end audio system installation featuring a fully-integrated custom subwoofers and amplifiers providing 8650 watt sound, all basking in a hot-orange glow. “The Veloster offers the ideal platform for aftermarket interpretation and personalisation, and provides the opportunity to demonstrate the full potential of this affordable sports model,” said Hyundai Motor Company Australia Marketing Director Oliver Mann. “Street Concept is an excellent example of the versatility of the brand and the potential for Hyundai to reach a broader audience.” The complete list of aftermarket modifications and performance enhancements fitted to the Veloster Street Concept are as follows: ENGINE

AIMS Displays Car Safety

Written by Lee McKenzie McKinnon on . Posted in News

For the first time in the programs history the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) will participate as an exhibitor at the Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) in Sydney from 18-28 October 2012. Exhibiting amongst the world’s biggest manufacturers, ANCAP will showcase 5 star safety to show-goers with one of its crash-tested cars on display. The 5 star Hyundai i45 will be the key feature of the ANCAP stand, but it won’t be a pristine, showroom-detailed model – rather one that has undergone an ANCAP frontal offset crash test. The frontal offset test simulates hitting another car of the same mass travelling at the same speed. 40 per cent of the car, on the driver’s side, makes contact with a crushable barrier at 64 km/h. The i45 achieved the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating with solid results across all physical crash tests and through the inclusion of safety features including six airbags, electronic stability control, emergency brake assist and seat belt pretensioners. Experienced ANCAP technical staff will be on hand to answer questions for show goers and how to check the safety rating of their current or prospective car. They will also explain the future of ANCAP safety testing and vehicle safety technologies and encourage consumers to “accept nothing less” than 5 star safety when purchasing their next car.
